The Thun Castle is one of the country’s most iconic castles. It was built in the 12th century as an administrative castle and was expanded throughout the years. Now it's a historical museum where you can learn about the city's history. It is worth to climb the stairs of the castle for a panoramic view.
 
From the city centre, a 20-minute walk will bring you to Schadau Castle and Schadau Park. Schadau Park is on the shores of Lake Thun. Today, this historic castle is home to a hotel and restaurant.
 

Wooden bridge

The Obere Schleuse (Upper Watergate) – Scherzligschleuse – originally built in the 18th century, is a lock you can walk through. The wooden bridge is decorated with flowerpots in season. With a little imagination, you could call it the little brother of Lucerne's Kapellbrücke.
 

Rathausplatz (Town Hall Square)

The Rathausplatz is the historic centre of the city and is named after the 16th century Town Hall, which is just one of several impressive buildings surrounding the square. The Rathausplatz is small but take your time to look up and notice the details. You will also have a nice view of Thun Castle, which sits proudly on a hill overlooking the town from the Rathausplatz.
 

Mühleplatz (Mill Square)

You can end your day at Mühleplatz. Until the 1970s, grain was ground into flour here. Here, you will find loads of cafés and restaurants, considering it is a small area, it is a lot of fun to hang out here for a drink.
