December is a special month for hiking. It's gray and cold on the Central Plateau, which doesn't encourage you to go hiking. There is usually not much snow in the tourist resorts and the mountain railroads often only start the winter season just before Christmas. The Wiehnachtswäg in Aeschi bei Spiez is a slightly different hike, albeit a short one. The approximately two-kilometre-long circular walk is located between Aeschi and Aeschiried. From the Wachthubel bus stop, follow the road towards Aeschiried. The marked Wiehnachtswäg begins at the large bend on the right. Along the route, there are six wonderful motifs near small barns that tell the Christmas story. At Sewenegg, the Wiehnachtswäg-Beizli invites you to take a break. The trail is particularly suitable for a lovely walk at night, in a special winter atmosphere with candlelight and starry skies. Depending on how long you linger at the individual pictures, you will need about an hour to walk the circular route. We recommend that you take a flashlight with you in the dark.
