- Start: Gstaad, Wispile mountain station
- Destination: Gsteig, Post office stop
One of the most impressive winter hikes in the canton of Bern can be found on the Wispile near Gstaad. The mountain, which is popular in summer, also offers beautiful hiking trails with magnificent panoramic views in winter. However, the cable car only runs during the festive season and in February (check the timetable). From the mountain station, the panoramic winter hiking trail leads over the broad and long ridge of the Wispile to the Chrinetritt. You can enjoy a fantastic view of the snow-covered mountains on the well-groomed and wide path. Halfway to the Chrinetritt, at the Vordere Höji Wispile alp, you can enjoy the fondue you have brought with you in the oversized fondue caquelon in wonderful surroundings. The rucksack with all the ingredients is available at the mountain station (order on 033 744 11 15!). The panoramic winter hiking trail ends at the end of the Wispile ridge. If you prefer a leisurely hike, take the same route back to the Wispile mountain station. The descent from Chrinetritt to Gsteig is a little more challenging. For this stretch, we recommend taking a sledge with you and enjoying the rapid descent. From Gsteig, the post bus takes you back to Gstaad.

Directions
At the Chrinetritt, the elevation curves come closer together and the winter hiking trail ends here. From now on, there is only one direction to go: downhill, and a steep one at that. If you don't have a sledge with you, you can return to the starting point, the Wispile gondola mountain station, on the path you have used up to this point. (Sledges can be hired at the valley station of the gondola lift.) The descent is particularly fast in the first part to Chrine, as the route is quite steep at times. After crossing the Usseren Saaligraben, the descent follows an alpine road and is therefore less steep. A few wide hairpin bends take you to Rohr and from there straight on to Gsteig. The village is dominated by an impressive group of buildings comprising a church (with a richly decorated Renaissance pulpit inside), a former vicarage and the Gasthof Bären inn (in addition to rich carvings, the log building is also adorned with a beautiful inn sign dating from 1805). From here, it's just a few steps north to the Postbus stop at the Gsteig post office.

We recommend the following equipment: sturdy and waterproof hiking boots, light to medium backpack, protection against the cold, sun protection, hiking poles, first-aid kit, snacks, tea in a thermos flask, cell phone.
