- Start: Wilderswil station
- Destination: Breitlauenen, station of the Schynige Platte Railway
From Wilderswil, the path climbs with a steady incline through mostly shady mountain forest to Breitlauenen. The ascent is particularly attractive because you can experience the deciduous forest in the valley floor up to the colorful alpine flora and corresponding wildlife at various altitudes. The hike to Breitlauenen is crowned by the panoramic view at the destination. The intermediate stop Breitlauenen is located on the north slope of the long Faulhorn range. Like a viewing balcony, it lies high above the sedimentation plain of the Bödeli with the center of Interlaken. On the right and left, the fjord-like arms of Lake Brienz and Lake Thun extend, behind them the massive pre-Alpine peaks of Brienzer Rothorn, Augstmatthorn, and Niederhorn rise. The artist Ferdinand Hodler created several famous paintings here, such as "Lake Brienz from Breitlauenen."
