Discover the Winter Park Interlaken created from disused Christmas trees

Immerse yourself in the magical winter world of Winter Park Interlaken! At Winter Park Interlaken, thousands of disused and unsold Christmas trees huddle closely together as if they're trying to keep each other warm, forming the shape of a snow crystal. After gracing the homes and shops of the Holiday Region Interlaken, these Christmas trees find a new home on the Höhematte. Between 11 January and 2 March 2025, you can take a stroll through the Winter Park and soak up the winter atmosphere free of charge. Explore the branches of the great snow crystal and be enchanted by many hidden surprises amid the fir trees.

Experience the magic of the Winter Park Interlaken

In the shadow of the Harder to the north of the city, overlooking the snow-capped Jungfrau to the south, disused and unsold Christmas trees find a second home on Interlaken’s Höhematte in the beginning of the year. When the icy cold winds blowing from Lake Thun to the west and Lake Brienz to the east converge in Winterlaken, the labyrinth offers a haven where you can immerse yourself in a magical world for a short time, mingling with guests and locals and forgetting the world outside. Shaped like a snow crystal, the Winter Park on the Höhematte invites visitors to relish the magic from 8.30 am to 9.30 pm every day. Follow the signs to the entrance in the northwest part of the Höhematte, then look out for exciting surprises in every branch of the snow crystal.

Im schneebedeckten Winterlaken Labyrinth ist ein grosser Findue Caquelon aufgestellt und am blauen Himmel zieht ein Paraglider seine Kreise.

Winter Park Interlaken is largely made up of fir trees that just weeks before had been used as Christmas trees on the premises of local businesses and in the homes of people living on the Bödeli. The trees were generously donated to the Winter Park by the inhabitants and business owners. Pick your way along beguiling paths lined with wood chips, hear the rustle of the densely packed fir trees and breathe in the aromatic scent of the needles.

Make a wish

Im Hintergrund des Winterlaken Labyrinths aus Tannenbäumen ist die Stadtkulisse in einer Abendstimmung zu sehen. Alles ist beleuchtet.

The scores of fir trees at Winter Park Interlaken will captivate your thoughts and feelings so strongly that you will even forget the stunning surroundings. In no time, you will feel like you really have stumbled into a magical winter forest – surely the perfect time to make a wish that hopefully will come true. Before leaving the Winter Park, write your dearest wish on a piece of paper and hang it on one of the many fir trees. The Winter Park is a magical place, and the wish papers fill it with hopes and dreams, turning it into a fairytale forest of white – just in case the snow should melt. How many wishes can we gather? Some may wish for a toy car, others for a return visit to Interlaken in winter, while others still may wish for the health of their loved ones. No wish is too grand to write down and place on a Christmas tree.

Christmas trees used three times

The Winter Park offers a memorable experience for visitors and locals alike. It is made up of large numbers of used and unsold Christmas trees. Last year, around three thousand fir trees donated by residents, local businesses, shelters, the municipality and many other supporters found a second home in the Höhematte. After providing an entertaining diversion for visitors, the fir trees are passed on to fisheries, farms and animal parks for a third use.
