Ironman Switzerland Thun

The legendary race began in Zurich 23 years ago and, in 2021, for the very first time, is taking place at a new venue in Thun. Here you will be greeted by the deep-blue waters of Lake Thun, nestled in the imposing Alps of the Bernese Oberland. Experience Swiss culture and a mountain landscape in all its most attractive facets. Marvel at the three world-famous peaks of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau from the grounds and let yourself be amazed by the breathtaking backdrop.

Watch the athletes as they dive into the glassy 17-degree waters of Lake Thun and swim 3.8 km before a breathtaking mountain backdrop. Two laps of the 180.2-km cycle track then take the athletes towards Spiez, where they turn away from the lake towards Gürbetal. The picturesque track continues towards Bern Airport and Gantrisch. A gentle descent brings these steely men and women back to the transition area. From here you can watch the athletes complete three laps of the running track, which measures a total of 42.2 km. The track runs along the banks of the lake past the grounds and through the gorgeous park at Schadau Castle; the athletes then cross the historic Scherzligschleuse bridge before reaching the finish line and a much-deserved rest.

Alongside the race itself, numerous events take place in the grounds from the previous day. There’s the “Kids Paradise” for the kids, while grown-ups can find inspiration in the Ironman Expo and shop or relax in the Food Village. Further information can be found at www.ironman.ch.
