Relax in deep green forests by the invigorating Suld. Along the way are numerous peaceful picnic spots. How about a hike taking in the roaring waterfall of the Pochtenfall? When summer draws to a close, the colourful cattle drive down the Suldtal is held before snow magically transforms the landscape. Then it is time for cross-country enthusiasts to traverse the wonderfully snow-laden winter surroundings of the Suldtal.
The Suldtal nature reserve is an unspoilt natural paradise. Encircled by dark green firs, follow the burbling mountain stream of the Suld through the valley. Here you will find sheer relaxation, well away from civilisation in the pure heart of nature.
The untamed Suldtal opens to hikers from early May to the end of October. The walking trail along the Suld is ideal for families. Alternatively, the Suldtal bus transports you from Aeschiried to the Gasthaus Suld from the beginning of July until end of October. From here you can hike in the direction of the Morgenberghorn or join the Pochtenfall path, a circular route that overlooks the mighty waterfall from several perspectives. Here you will see the surging waters of the Pochtenfall gush over the 80-metre rocky promontory.
Enjoy a good grill session or picnic with family or friends at one of the Suldtal barbecue sites. The open-air barbecue point at Fuchsgraben even has a welcoming log cabin. Farther into the valley, the Sennhütte barbecue station is located by the stream; it is also possible to enjoy a grill by the Pochtenfall. In summer the trees provide pleasant shade, while those needing to cool off can dip their feet in the cold waters of the mountain stream. Refreshment is guaranteed.
On a Saturday in September each year, the herdsmen bring their decorated livestock back down from the pastures to the valley. You can see the colourful cattle drive in the Suldtal, and take the chance to grab some local Swiss alpine cheese at the "Älpler-Märit" (farmers' market). The precise date of the cattle drive is not confirmed until the end of the alpine summer; depending on the length of the grazing period and the weather, the cattle drive may take place earlier or later in September.

In winter, it is only possible to traverse the snow-laden Suldtal nature reserve on cross-country skis, which makes this a one-of-a-kind experience. Join the cross-country trail at Aeschiried, where you can buy a pass and rent your skis. Ski the classic 30-km trail or the equally long skating piste from Aeschiried, passing through the Suldtal as you head to Obersuld and back. It is also possible to enjoy cross-country skiing by night: the 4 km night run from Aeschiried is automatically illuminated every Monday to Friday until 21.00h. Travel through the beautifully snowy Suldtal on cross-country skis while breathing the invigoratingly fresh winter air.
